Mrs. Shopkeeper has been practising really hard for her special Christmas pop-up cabaret act…
Saturday 6th, Friday 12th, Thursday 18th and Saturday 20th December 2014 The concept of feasting was pretty much invented in the Middle East by the courts of Shah Abbas and those opulent Ottoman dudes. If you combine this fact with the idea of meze – the relaxed sharing of multiple dishes, and our also speciality – it is in fact quite astonishing that we haven’t done any seasonal banquets up to now. We will be offering four dates at the Cinnamon Tree Bakery over the Christmas period, although we will happily consider other catering enquiries and private parties. The first, third and fourth dates are suitable for omnivores (although vegetarians are very welcome), whilst the one on the 12th invites you to sample a Veggiestani Christmas.* The price for each of these of these menus is £40 a head, and includes Christmas fripperies, cheesy Christmas music, a complimentary glass of Persepolitan Pimped Prosecco on arrival and Mr. Shopkeeper’s best Santa impression. A £10 a head deposit will secure your reservation. Events start at 7.30pm. Call 020 7639 8007 to book – or pop in to the shop. Main Christmas Menu Fresh herbs, spiced cheese, pickles and our house roasted nuts Makhdoush – oil-preserved baby aubergines filled with walnuts Persepolis Ajvar – red peppers puréed with spices – and borani-ye-esfanaj, a dish of cooked spinach with yoghurt All served with Cinnamon Tree Bakery flat breads Smoked salmon on taftoon bread, served with dill pesto and creamed labneh Mussels poached in arak with saffron Vegetarians will be offered cigari boregi (flaky feta rolls) and chillied fouls medammes (broad beans) instead Chestnut and sprout tagine served with Marrakesh spiced potatoes Makanek: Iraqi Sausages (or root veg for veggies) baked in a fiery sauce, served with cucumber and pomegranate salsa Khorak-e-Morgh: piquant chicken breast (or mung bean hotpot for veggies) served with Zereshk Pulao – fragrant barberry rice Cinnamon Tree Bakery Mince Pies served with kaymak Middle Eastern Paneer board Mint tea or coffee Veggiestan Christmas Special Menu Friday December 12th Vegans are very welcome, but please advise us in advance so that we can cater for you magnificently rather than adequately. Fresh herbs, spiced cheese, pickles and our house roasted nuts Makhdoush – oil-preserved baby aubergines filled with walnuts Persepolis Ajvar – red peppers puréed with spices – and borani-ye-esfanaj, a dish of cooked spinach with yoghurt All served with Cinnamon Tree Bakery flat breads Persepolis Imam Biyaldi: the classic Turkish dish of baked aubergine, tomato, onion and garlic, with an extra Persepolitan twist Hand-rolled vine leaves filled with raisins and pine nuts, served with lemon sauce Cigari Boregi: flaky pastry rolled around Turkish cheese and onion Chestnut and sprout tagine served with Marrakesh spiced potatoes and pomegranate and cucumber salsa Aubergine steaks layered with halloumi, nibbed nuts and fruit leather Fig, barberry and lentil hotpot served with saffron rice balls Cinnamon Tree Bakery Mince Pies served with kaymak Middle Eastern Paneer board Mint tea or coffee *Please note that if any of these dates are under-subscribed, we may need to move your booking to a different day or offer you a refund. Fingers crossed that they will all sell out really quickly and you’ll be clamouring for more. ALSO: the menus are subject to (minor) change according to seasonal availability and other relevant stuff.
