We have not one but two vegetarian events coming up in the near future. So get them in your diaries now.
The first is a Veggiestan Cook School special at the Cinnamon Tree Bakery just along the road from us. On Sunday May 11th we will be showing you how to cook a whole range of stuff from the lands that comprise Veggiestan. The class will last around 2 1/2 hours (from 2.30 – 5pm), AND you get to eat everything afterwards. The cost is £35.00 a head, and spaces are limited: a 50% deposit will secure your place: call 020 7639 8007 or pop in to book.
The second marks the return of Team Persepolis to The Hill Station in Telegraph Hill (see photo above). On Saturday June 7th we will once again be unrolling a massive vegetarian spread: the plan is that you leave so full you have to roll down the hill. The menu is £35.00 and includes a wee cocktail at the beginning, and a mint tea to finish. We will put a link here when the box office ‘goes live’, as they say in the trade.
We will start with the traditional Middle Eastern platter of cheese, nuts, olives, chillies, herbs and warm bread.
This will be accompanied by dips: moutabal – aubergine with pomegranate, white bean and olive, and borani-ye-laboo – yoghurt with beetroot and spices.
The next course brings spinach fatayer – little Lebanese pies – and baked stuffed beef tomatoes. These will be served with a spiced Veggiestan salsa.
Next up – the salad course. This is partly to celebrate our new book on salads which is due out this Summer. We’re thinking spiced rye and caraway, and obscenely garlicky aubergine…
The ‘main’ course will comprise bogoli pulao – broad bean rice – with khorak-e-sabzi jaht – a vegetable hotpot. We will also serve Yemeni spiced lentils and an artichoke bake.
Pudding will be meze style as well – pastries and fruits of the season with our secret-ingredient dipping sauce.
Hope to see you at either or both events….
