So this year we thought we’d host a lock-in for New Year’s Eve. At 8.30pm we will close the shop to the public so that we can throw a private, corner-shaped, ticket only party for our favourite customers. A multi-course, omnivores’* festive feast with a bit of bubbly at midnight. Yours for £45.00 a head – but book soon as this thing is, like, just over a week away. The menu will be as follows (well, more or less – Mrs.S. does like to go off piste):
fresh herbs, marinated feta, makhdoush (posh stuffed aubergines), pickles
Persian caviar with crackers and vodka jelly
jewelled yoghurt with pistachios
moutabal – aubergines pureed with walnuts and pomegranate
served with a selection of warm bread
prawns (or mange-touts) sautéed with barberries and lentils
mussels poached with saffron and dill (or a selection of kibbeh and falafel for non-fish eaters)
herbed couscous salad
dolmeh – a platter of stuffed vegetables served with Persian pickles and yoghurt
Persepolitan haggis (aka kufteh): spiced lamb (or potato) filled with walnuts and chestnuts and other nice things
morasa pulao – sour cherry rice served with a citrusy chicken or vegetable hotpot
dessert platters – a selection of Arabic and Persian pastries and delights, served with fresh fruit and yoghurt
mint tea or coffee…and a glass of champers of course
*Vegetarians and vegans are still totally and magnificently catered for – but we do like to cook a bit of fish and meat now and then just to keep our hand in. Let us know when you book if you would prefer the vegetarian options…
